PRINCE GEORGE — CNC opened its doors to the public, prospective students and others to explore what the College of New Caledonia in Prince George has to offer. Shelley Carter-Rose, the vice president of student affairs for CNC says that the open house provides a host of opportunities to prospective students.

“Today is our opportunity to showcase our 90 programs that see and see offers. You can go to a classroom, you can come to the gathering place, meet faculty, pick up some information, ask questions.” – Shelley Carter-Rose, VP of Student Affairs, CNC

One of the 90 programs that CNC offers is the nursing program, complete with a training lab to simulate a hospital enviroment for nursing students, complete with everything from the equipment to the patients. Meghan Moore, a second year nursing student, choose CNC’s nursing program because of all the learning and training it provides.

“[I] found that throughout the nursing programs, throughout the Lower Mainland and across the province, this one was the best one that best suited me and my abilities to become what I wanted to be and the best nurse I could be.” – Meghan Moore, Second Year Nursing Student

Many of the programs at CNC like the nursing program, provide hands-on learning and training.

“The first year here, they already get lab time and clinical time so that they get that hands on piece right from the beginning. And that’s a little bit different than some nursing programs that don’t start until later on. We also have really nice small classes us with lots of opportunity for hands on time.” – Tara Green, Nursing Coordinator & Instructor, CNC

Prospective students could take a campus tour, connect with instructors, and many faculties and departments had demos to showcase what a particular program may involve. Other CNC open houses were held this past week in Fort. St James, Burns Lake, Mackenzie, Vanderhoof and Quesnel, giving possible students from across the region to have a look at what their future learning could be.
