Kayak Club teaches safety courses at the pool

PRINCE GEORGE – While many of us wait for the snow to melt, Prince George Kayak and Canoe club members are busy hosting kayak water safety classes before the spring and summer.

For the next few months, the Prince George Kayak and Canoe club will occupy a section of the pool at the Aquatic Centre, coaching students on the safe way to kayak.

Retailers are carrying more types of Kayaks than ever, and the president of the Club Bini Ball says it’s essential to understand how to use them properly.

Students can focus on watercraft safety and fun within the warm, safe, controlled environment at the pool.

“ We talk about the required kits you need on your boat, wearing the appropriate lifejacket, and the types of paddles you should be using. And then, in our more in-depth programs, we actually go through rescue scenarios with kids where they’re learning to flip out of their boat and climb back in.”
