PRINCE GEORGE – A young Indigenous man from Northern BC is hoping to inspire Indigenous youth across the country.

David Dominic took a long path before he arrived at Tech Helicopters in Prince George to certify as a Commercial Helicopter Pilot.

“That’s my childhood dream to become a helicopter pilot. So, yeah, I feel like for other members of my nation and other nations that opportunities like this are out there and you just have to reach for them and you just have to want to do it,” said Dominic.

Dominic said his journey would not have been possible without the financial assistance of the Indigenous Skills and Employment Training (ISET) program through the Doig River First Nation in Northern BC.

The message is simple, your dreams can be made possible if you go out there and reach for them according to the Northern BC product.

The soon-to-be helicopter pilot has already graduated with his fixed-wing pilot license from a school in Manitoba.

Greg Saunders, the head instructor at Tech Helicopters and owner said he has never seen someone so prepared and experienced despite not having actual hours on a machine.
