Landslides interrupt backcountry roads between Prince George & Williams Lake

PRINCE GEORGE – According to the Drive BC website, landslides and washouts have affected 5 access roads on both sides of Highway 97, and the impacts will last for a number of weeks.

The Quesnel-Hixon Road, has been closed in both directions due to a landslide at Cottonwood Bridge.

West Fraser Road, remains closed in both directions due to a past washout at Narcosli Creek 20 km south of Quesnel. there is a detour servicing the area via Garner Road and Webster Lake Road. Construction is currently on hold for the winter, and expected to be completed by September 2023.

Soda-Creek Macalister Road is also closed in both directions, near the intersection of Soda Creek Townsite road, due to a slide about 10kms from the Highway 97 Junction.

Kersley-Dale Landing Rd, has been affected too, where a Landslide 500 metres in from Highway 97 Intersection has led to A temporary Single Lane Gravel Road for Local Traffic via Arnoldus Road.

Durrell Road, has been closed in both directions thanks to another Landslide 700m from Highway 97. There is a detour available via Highway 97 and Dale Lake Road

Geo-tech assessments are underway in the region, and according to the website, updates on the affected routes will be available in Mid-April.
