YXS looking to grow cargo operations

PRINCE GEORGE — The Prince George Airport is a transportation hub for the city and the north, but the airport also plays a vital role in the movement of cargo for Northern B.C.

Prince George sits at the geographic center of British Columbia, which provides a strategic position when it comes to the movement of goods throughout BC and the North. And the Prince George airport can play a role in facilitating the movement of that cargo.

“That’s accredited to the vision that was held when this airport became part of the National Airport system, that our location in the center of the province and our access to road, rail, the Port of Prince Rupert, make Prince George the perfect spot for that growth and cargo in particular.” – Gordon Duke, President & CEO, PGAA

Gordon Duke, President and CEO of the Prince George Airport Authority (PGAA), says that YXS has all of the infrastructure to handle more cargo operations. YXS has a large apron that is able to hold two widebody aircraft at a time, as well as cargo warehouse and fuel concession.

Deklan Corstanje, Manager of Economic Development for the City of Prince George, says that that the assets that the airport has is key to attracting investment. Corstanje also said that the foreign trade zone is another tool that city and airport has to attract operators and investment.

The next step for YXS? Attracting more cargo operators. Gordon Duke says that operators will have unfettered access, as well having a lower cost to operate at YXS.

“We believe everything is in place and we are actively pursuing opportunities to hopefully make that happen.” – Gordon Duke, President & CEO, PGAA

As a hub for the North, YXS continues to provide vital operations to serve the community and Northern B.C., and with everything in place, all that’s left is for more cargo planes to be taking off out of Prince George.
