PRINCE GEORGE — Just 24 hours after their 7-1 loss, the Victoria Royals put seven goals of their own in a 7-6 win over the Prince George Cougars in a shootout at the CN Centre Saturday (Mar.18).

The Cougars struck first midway through the opening frame with Caden Brown scoring his 17th of the season. The Royals would answer near the end of the period. Nate Misskey would get Victoria on the board with a power play goal to tie things up at one.

Victoria would keep their energy levels high in the second period as Luke Rybinski scores 1:17 into the frame to give his club a 2-1 lead. The Cougars would strike back thanks to Koehn Ziemmer scoring his 39th on the year to even the score at two.

Two more goals would be scored by the Royals near the end of the period. Brayden Schuurman would score his 14th at 16:03 and Riley Gannon fires his 18th at 19:57 to give Victoria at 4-2 lead heading into the intermission.

In the third period, both teams would start picking up the scoring pace quickly. A total of six goals would be scored by both clubs. Including Brayden Schuurman’s 15th at 19:54 of the third period to tie the game at six and send it into extra time.

The Royals would out shoot the Cougars 3-2 in overtime but fail to find the back of the net. Therefore the game would have to be decided by a shootout.

Two players from each team had a chance in the shootout. The only one that was successful at finding the back of the net was Brayden Schuurman, who seals the game winner and completes the comeback for the Royals.

Next up, the Cougars will travel over to Kamloops as they get set to face the Blazers at the Sandman Centre on Friday (Mar.19). Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m.
