The French Association of Prince George receives provincial award

PRINCE GEORGE — Le Cercle des Canadiens Francais de Prince George (CCFPG) was the recipient of the British Columbia Francophonie Day Award from the B.C. government. The award is given each year to recognize the contribution of an organization in the community.

The Welcoming Francophone Community project highlights the importance of immigration to the vitality of the Canadian Francophonie.

“It’s technically meant to help new immigrants in Prince George feel at home in Prince George, so the goal is to help them find housing, help them find jobs and help them just feel like they belong to a community in Prince George.” – Linda Boni, Project Coordinator, Welcoming Francophone Community

Sarah Maurice, the executive director of The French Association of Prince George, that the award was unexpected.

So this award from the government means that even outside of the region, people heard about us and people believe in the French culture and French communities.” – Sarah Maurice, Executive Director, CCFPG

March 20th was also Francophone Day in BC, and Adrian Dix who is the minister responsible for francophone affairs, said at the award ceremony that the French speaking residents and French-speaking Canadians all contribute to the richness of the province.

The Cercle des Canadiens Français was founded in 1960 by a group of Francophones who met regularly in order to promote the French language, its culture and the French-Canadian heritage.
