PRINCE GEORGE – Sport climbing debuted at the 2020 Summer Olympics. As the sport continues to reach new heights, plans are underway to host a citizen climbing competition this weekend at OVERHang climbing gym.

For the rest of the week, some local climbers are expected to hit the wall OVERhang gym to strengthen their grip for the upcoming bouldering competition.

“Bouldering does not involve ropes, does not involve harnesses. It’s very technical types of moves.” Lauren Phillips OVERHang, Owner

OVERhang and Prince George Backcountry recreation association are hosting the citizen boulder competition on Saturday, April 1, as part of the PEAK Climbing Festival.

Top-scoring women and men in the competitive Scramble go on to Finals, which are run in the World Cup format.

Over 50 climbers are scheduled to participate in the PEAK Boulder Competition and Climbing Festival, with the finals beginning at 4:30 Saturday.

PEAK Boulder Competition Festival information can be found on the OVERHang website.
