Mar 28, 2023 | 11:37 AM

PRINCE GEORGE — March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month and colon cancer is a disease that will affect 1 in 6 British Columbians and is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in Canada. This week, we spoke to Dr. Jennifer Telford, medical director of the BC Cancer Colon Screening program to find out more.

Colon screening is recommended for people ages 50 to 74, and should be done even if you do not have symptoms. The BC Cancer Society has multiple testimonials of thos who have benefitted from early screening.

When detected at its earliest stage, the survival rate for colon cancer is over 90 percent. For more information on screening and symptoms, please visit bccancer.bc.ca/screening/colon or contact a medical professional.
