PRINCE GEORGE — The Conservative Party of BC has acclaimed Nechako Lakes MLA John Rustad as its new leader.

Rustad joined the party last month after he was kicked out of the Liberal caucus last summer for questioning climate science. He announced his intention to seek the party leadership last week.

Rustad has been an MLA for 18 years and was the minister of aboriginal relations and reconciliation while with the BC Liberals.

“I want to thank the thousands of members of the Conservative Party of British Columbia. I appreciate the trust you’re putting in my leadership, and I promise you this — no one will outwork me,” says Rustad.

“For the past 18 years, fighting for British Columbia has been my life. I am going to be focused, I am going to be relentless, and I am going to bring the fight to the woke NDP and Liberals who think that they should get to limit your job prospects, deny your freedom, gatekeep your healthcare, spend your money, tell you how to raise your children and reduce your public safety by having compassion for criminals instead of their victims.”
