PRINCE GEORGE — The UNBC Timberwolves have committed central defensive midfielder Wyatt Lyon for the upcoming Canada West season.

The Twolves say that the 18 year old is “considered one of the best players in the BC Soccer Premier League” and is a “physical, skilled, and steady defender with the ability play up the pitch.”

“I’m a big, strong defensive midfielder who likes to get on the ball and control the game. I also like to play physical and put in a good tackle. I think the biggest adjustment will probably be the physicality. Coming from playing against players around my age to play against full-grown adults.” – Wyatt Lyon, Timberwolves Men’s Soccer Commit

Lyon has already visited UNBC’s Prince George campus back in February where he had the chance to train alongside the Timberwolves varsity roster and says that the visit was critical in decision to join the Twolves.

Head Coach Steve Simonson says that Lyon is a versatile player and that he was very impressed with his technical quality and composure on the ball. Simonson also noted that the newest committment is a “major get for the Timberwolves program.”

“He’s able to play in the middle of the park or start the attack from a central defender role… His character is exceptional, and I think his future at our level is extremely bright. Today is a good day.” – Head Coach Steve Simonson, UNBC Timberwolves Men’s Soccer

Wyatt originally hails from Courtenay, BC, and currently plays his high school soccer for Reynolds Secondary School in Victoria and also plays for the Vancouver Island Wave program. Lyon is set to graduate from Reynolds in June and intends to study biochemistry and molecular biology at UNBC.
