On a cloudy and windy Easter Saturday, the armories for the Rocky Mountain Rangers were opened to the public for the day, allowing folks to have a tour around the building and to meet some of the rangers. Captain Eric Depenau is the officer commanding bravo company of the Prince George unit of the rangers.

On the 1st week of April, the rangers celebrated their 115th birthday, and the open house is a part of the celebrations.

The rangers are a primary reserve infantry regiment within the army, meaning that the soldiers may not be full-time soldiers, but the those in uniform are still part of the community.

Captain Depenau is currently the chief administrative officer for the village of Valemount but has also represented Canada abroad as part of the army and was most recently selected as one of a few Canadian delegates to attend the Interallied Confederation of Reserve Officers, Young Reserve Officer Seminar in the Czech Republic. Depenau says that the armed forces has provided opportunities for him that others may benefit from.

While the rangers have been around since 1908, the unit in Prince George has been around for 10 or 11 years, but has cemented a place for itself in the community for many more years to come.
