Mayor Simon Yu proclaims start of City’s Volunteer Week
PRINCE GEORGE – Bright and early this morning, Mayor Simon Yu accompanied by city councillors Ron Pollilo, Trudy Klassen, and Tim Bennett, met with the top brass of Volunteer Prince George to proclaim the start of the City’s Volunteer Week.
Prince George has long history of passionate volunteerism, and as anyone here will tell you, it’s a real point of pride for the northern capital. Back in 2015, thanks to the tireless efforts of locals during the Canada Winter Games, Prince George was considered THE Volunteer City in the Province. Statistics from the era indicate upwards of 60% of city residents over 15 years of age were engaged in volunteer work, and while Covid-19 recently affected turn out, the demand for volunteers has always remained the same, year after year.
It might be the brutal cold winters, or the scorching hot summers, or it could be a sign of the Northern Capital’s close knit, small town character shining though… but whatever the reason, anytime anything happens in Prince George, there’s guaranteed to be an army of volunteers diligently working behind the scenes and on the front lines to ensure it happens without a hitch.
