PRINCE GEORGE– It was exactly one week ago today the Cougar’s season ended at the hands of the Seattle Thunderbirds. However, the team exceeded expectations for the season as they clinched Home Ice advantage for the first time since 2017 and won a playoff series for the first time since 2007.

After beating the Tri-City Americans in 6 games they got tasked with the powerhouse Seattle Thunderbirds, who swept the Cougars with no real trouble. While players were disappointed, they also knew the team they were facing. It was a great experience for the players; they now know what is necessary to take the next step in the postseason.

“It just shows where we got to get to. Obviously, we’ve just got a little taste of what a true winning organization is like. It’s just something we’re really trying to build around here. It starts with the regular season and bringing that playoff mentality at the beginning of the year.” – Riley Heidt, Cougars Forward

And three 20-year-olds on the way out provide new opportunities for the next group. One of them is Hudson Thornton, who is eager to build on his historic season this year and ready to lead this team.

“I’m already counting down the days to come back. With all our key pieces coming back except for our amazing 20-year-olds it’s going to be so fun coming to work every day. I think next year is going to be our chance to do something really, really special and I’m just really looking forward to it.” – Hudson Thornton, Cougars Defenseman

The team now looks ahead to some well-deserved rest in the offseason before starting back up in September. With the quest for a WHL Championship in their sights for 2024
