PRINCE GEORGE– The Prince George Gymnastics Club continues to make its mark in the sport. Sending athletes down to competitions with the latest being the 2023 Compulsory BC Championships in Langley this past weekend. That’s where 10-year-old Mackenzey Schmidt and her teammates competed in multiple events.

“It was fun. I was a little nervous though. I was just kind of focusing on my routine.” – Mackenzey Schmidt, Gymnast

And it doesn’t go without hard work, as for Mackenzey she’s here on the daily working hard and looking to improve her skills every day.

“Were 3 times a week, 9 hours a week. We just do routines a lot for the competitions” – Mackenzey Schmidt, Gymnast

A big part of the Prince George Gymnastics Club’s success is the many coaches including Aly Muir. She coached Mackenzey and a couple of other gymnasts at the Championships and says it was a good experience for the girls.

“It was a really good event. All the girls did really well. It was held in a really cool, big venue, which I think was a different experience for them, and they all seem to have a lot of fun.” – Aly Muir, Coach, Prince George Gymnastics Club

With a bright future ahead, they continue to send athletes across the province and even the country to represent The Prince George Gymnastics Club.

“I think it’s really cool when a smaller Northern club like us gets to go to one of those bigger events and gets to show what we can do. So I think it was really great. How the girls did this weekend is really exciting for our club.” – Aly Muir, Coach, Prince George Gymnastics Club
