WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. — The Cariboo Fire Centre is preparing to prohibit open burning, starting next week.

In a news release, the B.C. Wildfire Service says Category 3 open burning will be prohibited throughout the Cariboo Fire Centre as of 12:00 noon next Thursday (May 4).

Category 3 fires include any fires larger than two metres high by three metres wide. The prohibition also includes three or more smaller fires, windrows and more than 0.2 hectares of stubble or grass.

The ban does not apply to campfires, nor does it apply within municipal boundaries that have their own fire prevention regulations.
