UBC expands occupational therapy to UNBC

PRINCE GEORGE – In partnership with UNBC, UBC will graduate 16 students with a Master’s in Occupational therapy in Fall 2024. Occupational therapists are in short supply around the province.

In 2024, 16 students will be part of the first OT graduation group in Northern B.C. An Occupational therapist plays an essential role on a healthcare team.

“ Somebody with stroke may have difficulty feeding themselves. The occupational therapist works to help the person feed themselves. So it could be adapting the fork, adapting the spoon or adapting their position to the food.”

Dr. Susan Forwell

UBC Department of occupational science and occupational therapy

Every year the OT Program will admit 16 students at UNBC that will be recognized and accredited by UBC.

As the program grows, the hope is more OTs will service smaller communities across the North.

UBC’s Masters Occupation Therapy program is a two-year master’s degree program and the only occupational therapy degree program in B.C.
