May 7, 2023 | 12:30 PM

ckpgBRITISH COLUMBIA – The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) has reported significant progress in the fight against the Teare Creek wildfire in the past 48 hours. The fire is now being held, which means it is not expected to grow beyond existing containment lines under the current conditions. As a result of this progress, all evacuation orders and alerts have been rescinded.

Despite this, crews are still conducting mop-up operations as well as Danger Tree Assessing and Falling in active fire areas. The BCWS reminds the public that the Teare Creek wildfire is still an active wildfire and a BCWS worksite. Any public interference on active fire worksites can have a direct impact on the effectiveness of fire suppression activities and can pose safety risks to both the public and responders who are working to contain these fires. To ensure wildfire suppression activities can continue safely and effectively, the public must stay out of active fire areas. Government officials, including firefighters engaged in fire control, have the authority under the Wildfire Act and the Wildfire Regulation to order all people to leave active fire areas.

While there has been significant onsite precipitation, the long-range forecast indicates hot and dry conditions well above seasonal are possible. Fire activity and onsite conditions can change rapidly, especially if hot and dry conditions return. Residents in the vicinity of active wildfires are encouraged to stay informed on the current wildfire situation and sign up for emergency alerts with their local government or regional district.

The BCWS continues to work to contain the Teare Creek wildfire and asks the public to do their part to stay safe and avoid active fire areas.
