Teare Creek fire nearly doubles in size into Saturday night

The Teare Creek wildfire near McBride southeast of Prince George has reported a dramatic increase in size. Over Friday, the blaze grew from 11, to 600 hectares. By saturday evening the fire had been reported as being 1,100 hectares in size.

The fire was backdropped by scenes of the northern lights going into saturday night.

The fire remains under the ‘out of control’ classification, and is considered a ‘fire of note.’

Multiple evacuation orders and alerts have been issued, and are still in effect across the McBride area. Mountain view road, as well as Alder road are closed due to the blaze. Alder road closing as recently as 9:00 on Sunday morning.

The city of Prince George will be set up with 72 hours of supports for evacuees under the provincial emergency program, city officials say they are ready for the intake.
