WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. — The Cariboo Fire Centre is tightening its open burning regulations. In a news release, wildfire officials say Category 2 open fires will be prohibited as of noon on Thursday (May 11).

Category 2 fires include fireworks, sky lanterns, burn barrels, binary exploding targets and air curtain burners.

Campfires smaller than a half-metre high by a half-metre wide are still permitted.

Next Thursday’s Category 2 ban will apply to provincial parks as well as public and private lands that are outside municipal boundaries that have their own fire prevention bylaws.
