Trinity United Church to hold Sunday services downtown, following fire at 5th Avenue location
PRINCE GEORGE -The Trinity United Church on 5th Avenue escaped Tuesday evening’s blaze structurally intact, but far from unscathed. Emergency crews made quick work of a fire which seems to have started in the church’s pulpit, but not before smoke and water had filled the building, seeping into all the flooring, fabrics, upholstery, and electronics in the sanctuary hall, and completely fouling the congregation’s worship space.
The investigation into what caused the fire is still ongoing, there’s no definitive word yet on how it may have started, or the total cost to repair the damages, but it’s clear that for the time being Trinity United Church will need a new home for Sunday services, and that home, happens to be in the heart of downtown.
The mood inside the Trinity United sanctuary on 5th Avenue was solemn today, as the Reverend Dr. Bob Fillier reflected on the loss of so many priceless items that symbolized cherished memories of the congregation. But, he was quick to point out the resilience of his congregation, and was adamant this latest set back would ultimately serve to bring them closer together.
