Public asked to avoid UNBC Greenway and Forests for the World trails while RCMP seek suspect in vehicle theft

PRINCE GEORGE — Update: The suspect has been caught by police, and request to avoid the UNBC Greenway and Forest for the World trails has been rescinded. No further updates will be provided.

Earlier: Local Mounties are on the lookout for a suspect in a vehicle theft and are seeking the public’s help in locating him.

“The suspect we are looking for is wearing shorts and was last seen without a shirt on. He will likely look disheveled and have scratches on his face. We are asking the public not to approach the suspect as he may have a firearm in his possession, but instead to call 9-1-1 if anyone sees a person matching this description in the area where police are currently searching,” says Prince George RCMP Cpl. Jennifer Cooper.

While the search continues, RCMP are asking the public to stay off the UNBC Greenway and Forests for the World trails while police conduct their search.

Police say investigators have reached out to UNBC administration to ensure the safety of the students and staff while the search is ongoing.

A Police Dog Service team and RCMP helicopter Air 3 are aiding in the investigation.
