Smoke still blanketing Prince George and much of B.C. Interior

May 18, 2023 | 6:09 AM

PRINCE GEORGE — Smoke from wildfires in the Peace Region of B.C. and Alberta is still blanketing Prince George and much of B.C.’s Interior.

A special air quality statement is still in effect for Prince George and Environment Canada says that smoke is widespread through northeastern B.C., central B.C. and extending into southern regions. Haze and smoke conditions will be variable within these regions.

As of 6 am on Thursday, modelling and forecasting from FireSmoke.ca shows that the situation may improve by tomorrow, with the smoke not looking to be as heavy by the afternoon. However, forecasts and modelling are always subject to change and the current modelling may not reflect what tomorrow’s conditions could look like.
