Vaisakhi takes place today

PRINCE GEORGE — The Vaisakhi parade and festival takes place today and in Prince George thousands gathered to celebrate.

Hundreds gathered at the Sikh temple in College Heights to mark the beginnning of the Vaisakhi parade. Vaisakhi is a festival celebrated in the Sikh religion, it marks the Sikh new year and commemorates the formation of the Khalsa Panth of warriors under the Guru.

This is the 23rd year that a Vaisakhi parade has been held in Prince George and the festival has attracted those from outside Prince George including Balwinder Singh Dhaliwal, who travelled all the way from Peace River, Alberta to be in the parade.

The event started at 10 am the Sikh temple on Davis Road in College Heights and travelled down to the CN Centre. The parade will return to temple from CN Centre starting at 2 pm. following the same route for the conclusion of the event.
