PRINCE GEORGE — The annual Cops for Cancer Tour de North is still a few months away, but the event has already kicked off and those taking part have already started to train.

Cops for Cancer started in 1997 and is a partnership between the Canadian Cancer Society and law enforcement to raise funds for life-saving childhood cancer research and to support children with cancer and their families navigate an extremely challenging time. In B.C., there are four tours that take place and Tour de North is the one which will take place in Northern B.C.

“They will be riding, the team Tour de North, will be riding over 800 kilometers in September during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. All the funds that they raise will go to the Canadian Cancer Society in support of childhood cancer research. – Ninon Daubigeon, Senior Manager, Cops for Cancer

In 2022, Cops for Cancer raised more than $1.5 million for childhood cancer research province wide in all four tours. Since its inception, Cops for Cancer has raised almost $52 million through cycling tours and other fundraising events. This year, the goal is to raise just as much if not more.

Scott Roberts works at the North District RCMP detachment supporting the RCMP, and is one of the 22 members of the team that will be cycling in the tour. The team consists of 13 law enforcement, first responders and guest riders from all over Northern B.C.

The Tour de North team will set out on September 15, beginning in Prince George and ending in Prince Rupert on September 21. If you wish to donate to the Cops for Cancer Tour de North or are looking for more information on how you can get involved and support, you can visit their website HERE.
