PRINCE GEORGE — The UNBC Timberwolves Men’s Basketball team continue to add building blocks near the basket, announcing the committment of six-foot-seven forward Wesley Ainu’u for the 2023-2024 Canada West season, and beyond.

The Richmond, B.C. product will be coming right out of high school and suiting up for the green and gold this fall, after playing for R.C. Palmer Secondary and earning Richmond City First Team All-Star twice as a result.

“I am very excited to play here,” said Ainu’u in a statement. “It has been a dream to play U SPORTS. To play basketball at a higher level and continue my career is an amazing feeling.”

Ainu’u was chosen to play for the BC Select Team in 2022-2023. He displayed impressive numbers this year, averaging 27.1 points and 17.3 rebounds per game this season. The six-foot-seven forward knows it will be a step up at the U SPORT level but is ready for the challenge.

“The speed of the game is what I’m expecting most to change. It is going to be a lot more fast paced and harder to keep up for a bit. But eventually, I know I’m going to get there.”

Ainu’u’s stellar numbers and ability to take coaching and then implement it into game situations impressed Timberwolves head coach Todd Jordan tremendously. “[Wesley] will bring in some much-needed size and power to our lineup. He is a really great person that will fit into our culture well.”

Ainu’u will graduate from high school in June and shortly after will report to Prince George for training camp in late August.
