Bike lanes to be discussed at next Prince George City Council meeting

PRINCE GEORGE — When Prince George City Council meets Wednesday (May 31), it will hear from a delegation calling for improvements to bike lanes.

The group which calls itself “Safe Biking for Prince George”, believes the current bike lanes are not safe and not connected. It’s hoping to convince council to evaluate improvements to bicycle infrastructure in Prince George and the Active Transportation plan.

In their presentation to the mayor and councillors, representatives will argue the current design is only catering to those who are very comfortable with cycling, reducing the opportunity for the cycling community to grow.

The group is also asking the City to consider placing physical barriers between vehicles and bike lanes. And it says some bike lanes should receive first priority in snow-clearing operations.
