Shell-Glen Volunteer Fire Department enhances road rescue capabilities

Jun 2, 2023 | 4:15 PM

PRINCE GEORGE – Our region has hundreds of kilometres of road. When a motor vehicle incident occurs, it takes a special team to respond. Shell-Glen Volunteer Fire Department’s road rescue team was recently added to the Regional District of Fraser–Fort George emergency road response mix.

To keep up with the growing skill set of Shell-Glen Volunteer Fire Department members, recently added a new emergency response truck to carry their road rescue in one vehicle.

Ten members at Shell-Glen are trained in the road and technical rescue.

“ We’re trained to NFPA standards that most firefighters are trained to. We practice extrication with hydraulic tools and hand tools. We also do technical rescue and over the bank with high-angle ropes and rope systems. “

Dennis Lloyd

Training Officer, Shell-Glen Volunteer Fire Department

The winter season is known to be busy for road rescue crews. Shell – Glenn and other halls continue looking for dedicated volunteers to protect their community.
