Madison Scott community vigil draws thousands

Jun 4, 2023 | 1:18 AM

VANDERHOOF — Thousands poured into the field at Nechako Valley Secondary School to remember Madison Scott, and share stories.

A trio of speakers including Vanderhoof Mayor Kevin Moutray, Scott family friend Julie Hodson, and Nechako Valley Search and Rescue member Mark Durupt addressed the crowd estimated at over two thousand people in size.

As many questions remain, the speakers preached patience to the crowd, insisting if they could wait 12 years to get to this point, a little bit longer is possible.

The community vigil was organized by members of the Nechako North Stars Senior AA Hockey Club with permission from the Scott family.

A heavy police presence remains on the southeast edge of Vanderhoof as investigators comb the scene of where it is believed her remains were discovered. No further details on the investigation have been provided. There is no word on if police have identified a suspect.

If you have any information you can contact your local police.

If you are in need of any mental health support you are asked to contact your local police who can provide further assistance.
