PRINCE GEORGE — The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) has expanded the Area Restriction Order connected to the South Peace Complex of fires 21 kilometres east of Tumbler Ridge and 44 kilometres southwest of Dawson Creek.

In a news release Sunday, BCWS says the size of the area restriction reflects the continued need to protect the public in areas where there are ongoing fire suppression activities and hazardous wildfire conditions.

The restriction of crown land went into effect at noon Sunday (Jun. 18). It will remain in effect until September 30 unless rescinded earlier.

The BCWS has released a detailed map of the geographic boundary of the area under restriction. You can access the map by clicking here.

Unless they have written authorization to remain in the area, a person may only be within the zone if they are travelling to and from their residence, using a highway, entering the area in an official capacity or travelling through the area to support wildfire suppression activities.

The fine for violating the Order is $1,150.
