PRINCE GEORGE — There won’t be any fireworks at the Canada Day celebrations in Prince George.

The City attributes the move to the campfire prohibition and increased fire risk region-wide.

“We know people are keen for fireworks, particularly to celebrate Canada Day, but it simply is not worth the risk,” Prince George Fire Rescue Chief Warner said. “We’ve already seen people in northeast BC evacuated earlier this month due to wildfires, so we need to make sure we’re playing our part and being sensible during the summer months.”

Despite the ban, the 50th anniversary of Canada Day festivities at Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park will have all of the same events and attractions that community members have come to enjoy like all-day enternatinment, food and kids activities will be present.
