Cariboo Cougars reaction to BCHL independence

PRINCE GEORGE- It’s almost been a month since the BCHL separated from Hockey Canada, yet the dust is far from settled.

The Cariboo Cougars and the BCHL have had a strong relationship in the past, developing hockey players throughout the province.

Now that relationship may be more complicated.

The BCHL’s separation from Hockey Canada means playing in a BCHL league game after September 30 means you cannot re-enter a league associated with Hockey Canada, which includes the BCEHL.

This again makes the relationship between the Cariboo Cougars and BCHL Complex, but the General Manager of the Cariboo Cougars Trevor Sprague says there still be a connection.

“We’ll find a way to make sure we have a relationship with the Spruce Kings and the BCHL,” said the general manager. “At the end of the day, all three teams that we have here, the organizations love moving the northern guys on and having that flavour on their teams.”

Sprague also mentioned that he was pleased with the BCHL’s decision to maintain their minimum of five players from British Columbia on each roster.
