PRINCE GEORGE – The United States and New Zealand have one. Over a hundred countries have a national bird, but Canada is not one of them. The government of Canada has yet to choose a national bird.

According to Clive Keen, an avid birder says, there have been multiple attempts to find a national bird.

Bird experts have met over the years and conducted surveys to find a national bird. According to Keen, some oenologists may have found the perfect bird.

“Obviously, the Canada Jay, because you don’t find it elsewhere, is most of them are in Canada. A few nips down to the States, but it’s a very Canadian bird.”

Clive Keen, Avid Birdwatcher

Keen says the Canada Jay, also called the Whisky Jack, lives in boreal forests and is known to be friendly, which can be seen from coast to coast, just like a Canadian.
