BURNS LAKE — An evacuation order for the Tintagel wildfire near Burns Lake has been expanded.

The decision to do so was made at 5 p.m. Monday night by the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako.

The Regional District says it was “issued to protect access to infrastructure and close recreation trails by Recreation Sites and Trails BC, and the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako.”

“This expansion broadens the evacuation order area issued on July 08, 2023 at 1930 hours and is for the following area: All lands and properties accessed by Boer Mountain Road north of the Kager Lake Campsite, and to the west of the existing Tintagel Evacuation Alert Area, as shown on the attached map.”

The Regional District says people who disregard this evacuation order and remain in the Evacuation Order area do so at their own risk.

“The Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako may be unable to assist anyone who remains in the Evacuation Order area. If you need transportation assistance from the area, please advise the individual providing this notice or call the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako at 250-692-1553. Gather your family and belongings and vacate the area immediately.”

The BC Wildfire Service says the lightning-caused Tintagel fire was discovered Friday July 7 and has grown to 350 hectares in size. Wildfire crews, aviation, heavy equipment and structure protection have been deployed to fight this fire.
