Additional evacuation alerts and order in the Cariboo

WILLIAMS LAKE — The wildfire situation is worsening in the Cariboo.

The Cariboo Regional District (CRD) issued evacuation order #2 for the Townsend Creek area Tuesday evening.

The evacuation route is:

• Turn south onto Lavington Road

• Continue on south Lavington Road, and continue straight (south) onto Tzenzaicut Lake Road

• Follow Tzanzaicut Lake Road east, and turn left (north) onto Garner Road

• Turn left (north) onto West Fraser Road

• Follow West Fraser Road north until you reach Quesnel

The lightning-caused Townsend Creek fire was discovered July 8 and is estimated to be 921 hectares in size. Wildfire crews, aviation, heavy equipment and structure protection have all been deployed to the area. It is considered a fire of note.

The CRD has also issued an evacuation order for the Pelican Lake area located southwest of Prince George. It’s affecting 644 parcels in the Pelican Lake Area. This order covers 112,208 hectares. This area includes the community of Titetown, north of Nazko, and was previously covered by the Pelican Lake Area Alert issued on July 10, 2023.
