Evacuation order issued for Great Beaver Lake wildfire

PRINCE GEORGE —The Regional District has upgraded the evacuation alert to an evacuation order.

The Regional district says this evacuation order covers a larger area of Electoral Area ‘G’ and includes Great Beaver Lake, Tureen Lake, Teardrop Lake and Bugle Lake and three provincial recreation sites. The evacuation order area is shown on the attached map. The 500 Road (Boot) through this area remains open for evacuation traffic only.

Evacuation Support Services may be available for residents of the evacuation order area. You’re asked to contact the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George at 250-960-4400 or 1-800-667-1959
for assistance.

Earlier: The Regional District of Fraser-Fort George has activated its Emergency Operations Centre and an evacuation alert has been issued for wildland interface fire in the Great Beaver Lake, Tureen Lake, Teardrop Lake and Bugle Lake area in Electoral Area ‘G’.

The evacuation alert area is frequently used for recreation and includes Great Beaver Lake, Tureen Lake and Teardrop Lake Provincial Recreation Sites. It is shown on the attached map. The area is located between Fort St. James and Bear Lake, northwest of Prince George.

The Great Beaver Lake fire was discovered on July 8 and was lightning-caused. It’s 260 hectares in size and is classified as out-of-control.

Those in the alert area should take the following steps:

• Prepare to leave the area on short notice

• Prepare a 72-hour personal emergency kit for your family with any necessary medications

• Gather important papers and move valuables to alternate locations • Make arrangements for pets to be moved to a safe location

• If you have livestock or hobby farm animals, begin making arrangements for a safe alternative location for them in case an evacuation order is issued
