PRINCE GEORGE — Update: UPDATED: 10/8 – This work was delayed and the revised dates are now August 22 to September 15 for the road closure and bridge resurfacing work.

The City of Prince George appreciates the understanding from our citizens and recognizes the inconvenience it causes being delayed. However, the safety of motorists is paramount, and this important work needed to be done before winter.

Earlier: The City of Prince George will close a section of University Way between August 8 and September 1 for the Shane Creek Bridge Deck Resurfacing project.

The road will close between Foothills and the entrance to the University.

The project, which has a budget of $1.2 million, is funded by the General Infrastructure Reinvestment Fund, and will see the old bridge deck being replaced.

The deck resurfacing is needed as the existing deck has reached the end of its useful life. The concrete bridge panels have been designed and constructed to be easily removed from the substructure to limit impacts to the motoring public, and to reduce lengthy construction times often experienced with this type of remedial work.

During construction, the University entrance will still be accessible via Tyner Boulevard and the walking trail that runs under the bridge may be intermittently closed.

Transit service will be impacted by this road closure which requires a detour for Route 15 UNBC/Downtown.
