Summerfest attended well despite smoke

Jul 15, 2023 | 2:55 PM

PRINCE GEORGE — Downtown Summerfest took place on Saturday, albeit a bit different this year because of the thick smoke that has been lingering over Prince George. Because of the smoke, Downtown Summerfest on Saturday, nearly didn’t happen.

“We almost thought it wasn’t going to happen, but we decided that we had to give it a go. And there definitely is still smoke in the air, but there’s a lot of smiles. And I think even though some people are wearing masks because that’s what they’ve chosen to do, they’re still smiling.” – Colleen Van Mook, Executive Director, Downtown PG

Despite the smoke, many folks did turn out to Veterans Plaza to partake in Summerfest activities, with music, food and shopping available, with over 30 vendors set up.

“So today we have the outdoor market. We’ve got some great vendors, we have our food vendors, we’ve got live entertainment. And really what we want Downtown Summerfest Saturdays to be about was to celebrate summer and celebrate downtown. And we’re kind of feeling the vibe. We are feeling it. We wanted to create some energy downtown, but we wanted to tell people that there’s a lot going on outside of this actual event here at City Hall. Downtown has a ton of restaurants and cafes, and we’ve got lots of shops that are open today. So come downtown!” – Colleen Van Mook, Executive Director, Downtown PG

Veterans Plaza will be home to Summerfest again, next Saturday, July 22 from 11 am to 4 pm and for more information on what is going to be happening, you can visit www.downtownpg.com.
