PRINCE GEORGE – It is not a sport for the faint of heart and Prince George is home to one of the premier mountain biking trails around: Pidherny. And that will be one of a trio of locations for a new event town. The PG 2-Day Enduro race.

“It’s a collaboration, all of us, and it takes all of us to make it happen too,” explains Jaco Mullen with the Prince George Cycling Club.

The event features a trio of runs in the city: Otway, which is new to the summer usage scene as a predominantly nordic sporting venue, the classic Pidherny and there is a new kid of the mountain biking block.

“Tabor Mountain. It’s awesome. There’s a really good crew working out there right now. They have a really awesome, you know, probably five, ten-year goal. So a lot of trails have been already laid out. You know, they have I think we’re at about ten kilometers of trail so far right in there, which we’ll get to see this weekend, which is really exciting.”

And while the word “enduro” smacks of challenging, the Prince George Cycling Club says this is for everyone.

“It’s an enduro it’s called, which basically means that you it’s untimed as you pedal to the top of the trail and then you get timed on the downhill. It’s super fine. It’s really going to be family-friendly. It’s it’s a big day, you know, it’s hard, but it’s not impossible by any means.”

With trails in places like Valemount and Smithers, and now an additional trail at Tabor Mountain, this region is becoming a mecca on the mountain biking scene.

“We have a lot of people ride here daily, which I don’t think some people understand is, you know, it’s nice to go to Belmont for the weekend for sure, but especially with the new trails coming in and the second day this weekend up there. Taber I think it’s going to keep people at home for the weekend rather than head out in those other directions.”

Registration is as simple as heading to the PG Cycling Club website. And there will be prizes and events for all.
