Great Beaver Lake wildfire evacuation order downgraded to an alert

PRINCE GEORGE — The Regional District of Fraser-Fort George has downgraded the evacuation order for a wildland interface fire in the Great Beaver Lake, Tureen Lake, Teardrop Lake and Bugle Lake area in Electoral Area ‘G.” The order has been rescinded, and an evacuation alert is in effect.

The evacuation alert area is frequently used for recreation and includes Great Beaver Lake, Tureen Lake and Teardrop Lake Provincial Recreation Sites. It is shown on the attached map. Those in the alert area should take the following steps:

• Prepare to leave the area on short notice

• Prepare a 72-hour personal emergency kit for your family with any necessary medications

• Gather important papers and move valuables to alternate locations

• Make arrangements for pets to be moved to a safe location

• If you have livestock or hobby farm animals, begin making arrangements for a safe alternative location for them in case an evacuation order is issued

The Great Beaver Lake fire was lightning-caused and was first discovered on July 8. It’s over 1,900 hectares in size.
