BEAR LAKE – Some residents of a small community north of Prince George say they constantly fear a roaming grizzly in their small town.

Bear Lake resident Jennifer Reimer took a video from her front door less than a week ago. It shows a grizzly Bear interacting with her neighbour’s dog. The young grizzly has appeared in her neighbourhood several times.

“ The concern is that we have been dealing with a grizzly bear that has decided to make Bear Lake pretty much its home. It’s in people’s yards, It’s walking the streets.”

According to Reimer, black bear activity is expected in her community. But considering it’s now a grizzly bear and the animal has not moved on has forced her to take extra precautions.

Reimer and some of her neighbours have called the Conservation Officer Service several times to seek help, though efforts are being made by the CO’s to deal with the roaming grizzly.

“ At this time, we are asking residents to manage any attractants, whether natural or unnatural. . . There are some individuals that have breached the Wildlife Act in regard to attractants. “

According to some residents, black bear sightings have dropped since the grizzly bear appeared at the beginning of June.

In the meantime, Reimer watches over her shoulder when her children are outside, ensuring they’re safe and monitoring a community social media page for the grizzly bear’s whereabouts.
