PRINCE GEORGE – Illegal dumping is a challenging issue that impacts the whole community. A longtime landowner is continually frustrated with some people’s disrespect for private land and the environment.

Barbara Bellamy is a member of the Bellamy family, and almost daily, she walks or drives along a section of her family’s property on the Hart Highway.

The land is nearly 4 square kilometres. At times it’s used by those riding motorbikes. Recently, an act of vandalism and dumping pushed them to think of limiting those who enter their property.

The property has been in the family for generations, and over the years, they have spent thousands of dollars cleaning up illegally dumped garbage.

McMillan Creek is a salmon-bearing creek that runs through part of the property. Some garbage illegally dumped on private property can affect the wildlife in the corridor.

The property owners have used cameras and warning signs and even confronted some offenders, but the bad behaviour continues.

The Bellamy family would like residents who witness illegal dumping to call the RAPP line. They would like to continue protecting the property for those who use it responsibly.
