Local creator to get $10,000 as part of STORYHIVE Voices program

PRINCE GEORGE — A Prince George content creator has received a grant through the STORYHIVE Voices program to share her story.

Sara Jones is the recipient of a $10,000 grant to create a docu-series through the STORYHIVE Voices program. Sara’s project is going to tell the story of the issues that the Indigenous population has had to overcome, as well as the Indigenous issues that her family faces directly today.

One of the main goals for Sara through this docu-series is to educate.

“I would love to educate the community. I’ve lived in Prince George my entire life, and so this area means a lot to telling my story as well. So in telling my story, I’m also going to be informing people of the story of the people that live here as well. So I really aiming to just educate people as I can.” – Sara Jones

For Sara, she is excited to have a platform to be able to tell her story.

“I think a lot of great storytellers are out there, but a lot of the times we don’t have the plot like the platform or the ability to get it out on a large scale. So I’m very excited to have a platform where I can tell my story and be as truthful in fact, as I possibly can in hopes of educating somebody along the way.” – Sara Jones

Sara was one of 101 content creators from BC and Alberta, selected as part of the STORYHIVE Voices project this year, and this is the third year that the voices program has been in existence. As well, this year is TELUS STORYHIVE 10 year anniversary. Since 2013, they have distributed more than $52 million in production funding, provided over 10,000 hours of robust training and one-on-one mentorship, supported over 1,100 projects with over 1,920 hours of locally reflective content and a community of thousands of local content creators in over 270 communities across the two provinces.
