Residents on Piper Road frustrated with speeding drivers

PRINCE GEORGE — The intersection at Piper Road and Boundary Road is causing a headache for the homeowners on Piper Road.

After turning off of Highway 16 onto Boundary Rd, Piper Rd is immediately to the right, and residents on Piper Rd are concerned about speeding motorists not following the speed limit which is 50 kilometers per hour on that section of road, and there have already been accidents at the intersection.

No parking signs have been placed along side of the road, to deter semi-trucks from parking when heading to the gas station. Peggy is concerned that eventually there will be a bad accident at that spot, and in the winter time, visibility can be further reduced. During peak traffic volumes, especially in the morning when people are heading to work, is when Peggy says that the speeding is especially bad.

The speed limit on Highway 16 at the Boundary intersection is 90 kilometers per hour, and drivers coming from the west, may not slow down sufficiently. Residents on Piper Rd are hoping that increased signage will get drivers to slow down once they turn onto Boundary Rd, making it less hazardous for them when trying to get off of Piper Rd.

In a statement to CKPG News, the City of Prince George says that “additional speed limit signs are not planned to be installed on Boundary Road between Highway 16 and Gunn/Boeing Road.” The City also says that there “are existing 50km/h signs on southbound Boundary Road and Old Cariboo Highway leaving Highway 16, and on northbound Boundary Road and Old Cariboo Highway approaching Boeing Road. ” This map was provided by the city to show where the existing signs already are and the signs are indicated by the red dots.
