PRINCE GEORGE — A busy weekend for Prince George Fire Rescue.

The City says crews doused a pair of fires – Saturday afternoon and early Sunday morning.

On Saturday, eleven firefighters from three halls responded to a structure fire on the 1700-block of Edmonton Street at around 4 p.m.

Firefighters arrived to find that a grass fire spread to a 10 foot by 12 foot shed, destroying it. Crews were able to quickly contain the fire, stopping any damage to the surrounding homes.

Damage was estimated at $15,000. According to the City, the cause of the fire “was smoker’s material.” There were no injuries.

Then early Sunday morning, just before 1 a.m., crews from three halls responded to a report of a commercial fire alarm at 1444 20th Avenue.

“When crews arrived, they found light smoke on the ground floor and heavy smoke in the basement,” says the City. “Fire crews extinguished a fire in the basement while assisting with an evacuation of the facility.”

The cause of the fire is unknown with damages estimated at $10,000. There were no injuries.
