PRINCE GEORGE – The Prince George Hospice Palliative Care Society is pleased to announce the completion of its new Rec Room, furthering its commitment to expanding hospice services for the community.

The addition of this space aligns with the Society’s strategic goal to meet the evolving needs of individuals experiencing grief and bereavement.

Since its establishment in 1987, Hospice House has been a pillar of support, offering grief and bereavement services to the Prince George community. In 1995, the organization proudly opened the Rotary Hospice House, the first-ever Hospice House in British Columbia. With a mission to lead hospice care provincially and nationally, Hospice has continuously responded to the community’s needs, pioneering cutting-edge programs within the sector.

Recognizing the unique requirements of instrumental grievers, individuals who express their response to loss through physical, cognitive, and behavioral actions, the Society conducted thorough research and literature reviews. The findings highlighted the valuable impact of instrumental grief programs that enable individuals to grieve in unconventional ways not currently offered by existing programs.

To accommodate these innovative initiatives, the Society has developed plans to utilize the hospice yard, establishing key elements such as a tent, Rec Room, garden, and labyrinth. The renovated garage now resembles a Men’s Shed, providing gender-specific activities along with inclusive programs. Additionally, the expansion includes the incorporation of a gardening area and a labyrinth situated within the property, allowing for future development and growth.
