Cougars dominant in 8-1 win over Kelowna Rockets

PRINCE GEORGE — The Prince George Cougars remain in the top spot in the WHL standings with a dominant 8-1 win over the Kelowna Rockets on Wednesday night at the CN Centre.

The win over the Rockets was the Cougars fourth consecutive win of the season so far, and they currently sit atop of the WHL standings at 5-1-0-0.

The Rockets started the scoring early in the 1st period, but the Cougars responded with a goal on the power play by forward Terik Parascak.

The second period would be a busy one for the Cats, Parascak scored his second goal of the game, and marking his league-leading 10th goal of the season. Moments later, forward Hunter Laing extended the Cougars lead to 3-1. Later in the period, short-handed goals from Oren Shtrom and Ondrej Becher, brought the Cougars to 5-1. Closing out the second period, Zac Funk scored his fifth goal of the season, further extending the Cougars lead to 6-1.

In the third period, the Cougars were strong on defence, limiting the Kelowna Rockets to just two shots on goal. Villiam Kmec added a power-play goal and Carlin Dezainde, got his third goal of the season Wednesday night, bringing the final score of the game 8-1 for the Cougars.

Prince George had 47 shots on goal, where as Kelowna was only limited to 11 for the entire game.

The next game for the Cougars is Friday, October 6 against the Wenatchee Wild at the CN Centre.
