PRINCE GEORGE – Mental Health is an integral part of day-to-day living, as many university students would know. The B.C. government announced that Here2Talk will be provided to post-secondary students for mental-health supports that are available 24 hours a day.

“Coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic. We’re seeing like an increase in student who are struggling with anxiety, depression and feelings of isolation and loneliness, and it really has put quite a strain or it’s impacted our local resources. Many are operating beyond their capacity, which can result in increased wait times to access services. So, something like Here2Talk is fantastic.”

Students get put through a lot and getting the mental health support they need is key to be succesful when completing their studies.

“Academic endeavors can be and usually are stressful. Just the idea of being evaluated and working towards something that is a goal. I think most students want to be sort of understood around that and maybe they feel sort of ashamed or embarrassed with how they’re thinking and feeling about things or coming into a confidential space where somebody can sort of get it and make it okay to be struggling. However that looks to them. And it doesn’t necessarily have to be academics, but ultimately being a student, whatever is happening in your life affects your academics.”
