PRINCE GEORGE — With families getting settled into the school year health and wellness issues can become more noticeable. Local community service providers, like intersect Youth and Family services notice there are more inquiries in October than at any other time of year.

In order to help parents and youth find those resources School District 57 is bringing a variety of local service providers together on October 18, for a Children and Youth Mental Health and Wellness fair.

Families often don’t know where to turn for immediate support for mental health and wellness support. We are hoping by bringing all these service providers to one place families can easily identify what is available immediately and long term to help their children cope with the pressures in school and beyond,

Laura Weller, Chair of the District Parent Advisory Council.

The event will be at the John McInnis Centre gym from 3-6:30 p.m. and will feature 20 organizations including representatives at Northern health, the YMCA, Carrier Sekani Family Services, AiMHI Family Support & Life Skills, PG Hospice Grief Support, Foundry, Elizabeth Fry Society, We Matter, PG Public Library, PG Sexual Assault Centre, PG Native Friendship Centre, Sources Community Resources, Northern BC Crisis Center, PG Brain Injured Group, Family Smart, School District 57, and District Parent Advisory Council.

The event will be on October 18 from 2 – 6:30 p.m., at John McInnis Centre gym (3400 Westwood Drive)
