London Drugs to stay in Prince George despite rising violence

PRINCE GEORGE—Hatchets, knives, chains, and more. These are just some of the many threats London Drugs has seen across the province, and it’s lead to serious talks about potentially shutting down some stores.

We’ve had over 1600 security incidents in that location(Prince George) over the past seven months in our year since February, and theres been just over a dozen incidents that are of the type I’m describing that involve violence, real violence, threat of violence, and literally threats to stab or kill employees.

Clint Mahlman, President and Chief Operating Officer of London Drugs

According to Mahlman, the Prince George location is a top five location in the province for the amount of crime measured by loss, noting that it’s made it difficult to keep the store going.

While Mahlman says he’s committed to keeping the store in it’s current location, he says, there needs to be action taken to keep the store safe for employees and customers. However, he didn’t want to directly tell governments what to do, as local governments know the community and are the ones to trust with local issues.

CKPG reached out to several Prince George City Councillors but they were unable to comment.
